Cost of Installing an Appliance Water Supply Line

The cost of installing an appliance water supply line will increase or decrease based upon a number of factors. Here are a list of factors that will impact the cost:

1. Existing plumbing. The cost of water supply line installation will vary depending on the condition of the existing plumbing. If major modifications or repairs need to made, this will come at an additional cost.

2. Location of appliance. The cost of installation may increase if your appliance is located in a hard to reach area. For instance, if you are planning to install an appliance water line far away from existing water pipes, you can expect to pay more for installation.

3. Supply line material. There are several options to choose from when selecting a supply line. Plastic (or PVC) lines are the cheapest option but have a short life span. They are prone to leaks and clogs that can lead to extensive water damage from flooding. Brass or copper options are more expensive, but more durable. They may require special installation by a licensed plumber, rather than a handyman. Flexible lines (or "flex lines") made of reinforced, braided stainless steel are the most expensive option; however, they are durable, easy to install, and highly recommended by professionals.

4. Structural changes. It may be necessary to drill holes in your kitchen cabinets in order to discreetly run a water supply line to an appliance. These modifications may come at an additional cost.

5. Washing machine hoses. Black rubber hoses are no longer the most common type of water supply connection. Metal or flex lines are only slightly more expensive and last much longer. These alternatives are also less prone to clogs and leaks.
